In Zhongzheng District (City Center)
Zhongzheng district is the heart of Taipei, where you will find some of the most famous historical buildings.
This area is a mix of government buildings, historical landmarks, and shopping streets, offering a convenient and central base for exploring the city.
It’s the best area if you want easy access to public transport to get anywhere in the city or go on day trips.
You should stay in this district if you want:
- For a first time stay, as you can easily reach all major sights via the metro (MRT).
- To take day trips outside of Taipei using the train or high-speed rail.
- If you love history and visiting museums.
This is the perfect area to see:
- Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, an impressive monument dedicated to the former leader of the Republic of China.
- The Presidential Office Building, a historic landmark from the Japanese colonial era.
- National Taiwan Museum and the 228 Peace Memorial Park.
- Huashan 1914 Creative Park, a former winery now hosting art exhibits, shops, and cafes.
- Taipei Main Station, a train station featuring a massive underground complex with shops and restaurants.
Where to Stay in Taipei’s Zhongzheng District?

Strong points: location near Huashan Creative Park, great gym, high-quality facilities, excellent service. The best choice for a high-end stay in Zhongzheng District!

In Ximending District
Ximending, just one metro stop from Taipei Main Station, is Taipei’s youthful and energetic hub.
Often called the “Harajuku of Taipei” (a famous district in Tokyo), it is a pedestrian-friendly district packed with shops, street food, and entertainment options.
Staying in Ximending means you are in the middle of the action, with a lively atmosphere day and night.
You should really stay in Ximending:
- If you’re looking for nightlife, with countless bars and street performances.
- If you love shopping for trendy clothes and quirky items.
- To be in a bustling neighborhood with lots of energy.
This district is perfect for discovering:
- The Red House Theater, a historic building from 1908 that now hosts a creative market and bars.
- Ximending Pedestrian Zone, the heart of the district with endless shopping streets.
- Street Art, found in the smaller alleys around the area.
- Delicious street food, from famous bubble tea shops to fried chicken stalls.
- Wannian Building, a multi-story complex full of toy stores, arcades, and collectibles.
Here are my favorite hotels in Ximending district

- Caesar Metro Taipei: A modern 5-star hotel in the south of the district, next to Wanhua train station and the metro station. Bright, comfortable rooms from 100$. Strong points: outdoor swimming pool with great city views, new facilities, helpful staff. Can’t beat that price for a 5-star hotel with pool!
- Sotetsu Grand Fresa Taipei Ximen: Located a 3-minute walk from Ximen MRT station, at the junction of Ximending and Zhongzhen districts. Modern marge double rooms from 140$. Strong points: Perfect location for exploring both Ximending and Zhongzhen, very clean, excellent service. An excellent choice for a high-end stay in Ximending!

In Xinyi District
Xinyi is Taipei’s modern, upscale district, known for its skyscrapers, luxury shopping malls, and fine dining.
This is the financial center of the city and where you’ll find the iconic Taipei 101 tower.
You should stay in Xinyi if you:
- Want a luxury travel experience with 5-star hotels and high-end shopping.
- Love incredible city views from your hotel room or rooftop bars
- Want to be close to nightlife and world-class restaurants.
Best things to see and do around Xinyi:
- Taipei 101, the city’s most famous building, with an observatory on the 89th floor.
- Elephant Mountain (Xiangshan), a popular hiking trail that offers the best views of Taipei 101 and the city skyline.
- Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, a large monument dedicated to the founder of the Republic of China.
- High-end shopping malls such as Breeze, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, and Bellavita.

If you’re traveling on a budget, here are a few great hotels for a stay in Taipei without spending too much:
