In Zhongzheng District (City Center)

Zhongzheng district is the heart of Taipei, where you will find some of the most famous historical buildings.

This area is a mix of government buildings, historical landmarks, and shopping streets, offering a convenient and central base for exploring the city.

It’s the best area if you want easy access to public transport to get anywhere in the city or go on day trips.

You should stay in this district if you want:

• For a first time stay, as you can easily reach all major sights via the metro (MRT).
• To take day trips outside of Taipei using the train or high-speed rail.
• If you love history and visiting museums.

This is the perfect area to see:

• Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, an impressive monument dedicated to the former leader of the Republic of China.
• The Presidential Office Building, a historic landmark from the Japanese colonial era.
• National Taiwan Museum and the 228 Peace Memorial Park.
• Huashan 1914 Creative Park, a former winery now hosting art exhibits, shops, and cafes.
• Taipei Main Station, a train station featuring a massive underground complex with shops and restaurants.

Where to Stay in Taipei’s Zhongzheng District?

• citizenM Taipei North Gate: A short walk from Taipei Main Station and Beimen metro station. Modern, smart rooms starting at 95$. Strong points: tech-focused features, great city views, stylish design.
• MGH Mitsui Garden Hotel Taipei Zhongxiao: Located right next to Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT station and close to Huashan 1914 Creative Park. Stylish double rooms from 105$. Strong points: relaxing Onsen (Japanese public bath), excellent Japanese-style service, very clean and modern. A great choice for its excellent value for money!
• Miramar Garden Taipei: Set in a quiet part of the district. Elegant, spacious rooms from 120$. Strong points: beautiful outdoor swimming pool, sauna facilities, very comfortable beds. The best hotel with a pool in Zhongzheng!
• Hotel Resonance Taipei, Tapestry Collection by Hilton: A 5-minute walk from Shandao Temple MRT station. Stylish rooms with a modern, artistic vibe from 220$. Strong points: location near Huashan Creative Park, great gym, high-quality facilities, excellent service. The best choice for a high-end stay in Zhongzheng District!

In Ximending District

Ximending, just one metro stop from Taipei Main Station, is Taipei’s youthful and energetic hub.

Often called the “Harajuku of Taipei” (a famous district in Tokyo), it is a pedestrian-friendly district packed with shops, street food, and entertainment options.

Staying in Ximending means you are in the middle of the action, with a lively atmosphere day and night.

You should really stay in Ximending:

• If you’re looking for nightlife, with countless bars and street performances.
• If you love shopping for trendy clothes and quirky items.
• To be in a bustling neighborhood with lots of energy.

This district is perfect for discovering:

• The Red House Theater, a historic building from 1908 that now hosts a creative market and bars.
• Ximending Pedestrian Zone, the heart of the district with endless shopping streets.
• Street Art, found in the smaller alleys around the area.
• Delicious street food, from famous bubble tea shops to fried chicken stalls.
• Wannian Building, a multi-story complex full of toy stores, arcades, and collectibles.

Here are my favorite hotels in Ximending district

• Meander Taipei Hostel & Hotel: A short walk from Ximen MRT station. Bed in a dormitory from 45$ and private rooms available from 95$. Strong points: great social atmosphere, very clean, and helpful staff
• amba Taipei Ximending: Located inside the Eslite shopping complex. Spacious, trendy double rooms from 100$, with breakfast included. Strong points: creative design, large rooms, and central location.
• Caesar Metro Taipei: A modern 5-star hotel in the south of the district, next to Wanhua train station and the metro station. Bright, comfortable rooms from 100$. Strong points: outdoor swimming pool with great city views, new facilities, helpful staff. Can’t beat that price for a 5-star hotel with pool!
• Sotetsu Grand Fresa Taipei Ximen: Located a 3-minute walk from Ximen MRT station, at the junction of Ximending and Zhongzhen districts. Modern marge double rooms from 140$. Strong points: Perfect location for exploring both Ximending and Zhongzhen, very clean, excellent service. An excellent choice for a high-end stay in Ximending!

In Xinyi District

Xinyi is Taipei’s modern, upscale district, known for its skyscrapers, luxury shopping malls, and fine dining.

This is the financial center of the city and where you’ll find the iconic Taipei 101 tower.

You should stay in Xinyi if you:

• Want a luxury travel experience with 5-star hotels and high-end shopping.
• Love incredible city views from your hotel room or rooftop bars
• Want to be close to nightlife and world-class restaurants.

Best things to see and do around Xinyi:

• Taipei 101, the city’s most famous building, with an observatory on the 89th floor.
• Elephant Mountain (Xiangshan), a popular hiking trail that offers the best views of Taipei 101 and the city skyline.
• Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, a large monument dedicated to the founder of the Republic of China.
• High-end shopping malls such as Breeze, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, and Bellavita.

The Best Hotels to Stay in Xinyi

• Grand Hyatt Taipei: This 5-star hotel is directly next to Taipei 101. Classic, spacious rooms from 210$, breakfast included. Strong points: outdoor heated pool, fantastic location, and a wide choice of restaurants. A great choice for its excellent value for money in Xinyi district!

• W Taipei: This 5-star hotel is the place to see and be seen in Xinyi. Stylish rooms with the latest technology from 325$. Strong points: amazing rooftop pool and bar, lively atmosphere, direct access to City Hall MRT station. This is simply the best luxury hotel in Taipei!

Where to Stay in Taipei on a Budget

If you’re traveling on a budget, here are a few great hotels for a stay in Taipei without spending too much:

• Finders Hotel-Fu Qian: A short walk from Taipei Main Station. Compact and clean double rooms from 55$. Strong points: free snacks and drinks in the lobby, great location, excellent value for money
• Taipei See You Guesthouse: Located in the Zhongzheng district, a short walk from Taipei Main Station. Cozy private rooms from 70$. Strong points: excellent location for transport, very friendly host, clean rooms.
• Hotel Relax III: Just a few minutes’ walk from Taipei Main Station. Modern and compact double rooms from 75$. Strong points: free snacks and drinks in the lobby, great value, superb location.
• Meander Taipei Hostel & Hotel: Located in the lively Ximending district. Clean and modern rooms from 90$, with dorm beds also available. Strong points: very social, huge common area, friendly staff. My favorite hotel for a stay in Taipei without breaking the bank!
• Dandy Hotel – Tianjin Branch: Located in the trendy Zhongshan district, near the metro station. Bright, stylishly decorated rooms from 95$, breakfast included. Strong points: cool design, excellent breakfast, friendly staff. A great budget boutique hotel option. Another great hotel if you don’t want to spend too much!

Where to Stay in Taipei with Family

• Star Hostel Taipei Main Station: Close to the main train station. Offers private quadruple rooms perfect for families from 125$. Strong points: amazing common area, very clean, excellent location for day trips.
• Caesar Metro Taipei: Near Ximending. Quadruple rooms available from 150$. Strong points: outdoor pool, close to public transport, modern facilities.
• Miramar Garden Taipei: Set in a quiet part of Zhongzheng district. Quadruple rooms from 160$. Strong points: beautiful outdoor swimming pool, sauna facilities, very comfortable beds.
• Caesar Park Hotel Banqiao: Located in the Banqiao district with direct access to public transport. Modern family rooms from 180$. Strong points: exceptional rooftop infinity pool with city views, luxurious feel, great value for a 5-star hotel.

And if you’re looking for something a little more affordable but still luxurious, you should book a night or more at Grand Hyatt Taipei.
