As Lagos is famous for its coastline, most people opt for a hotel near the beach for their stay.
The beaches around Lagos includes the long sandy stretch of Meia Praia and the dramatic cliffs of Porto de Mós and Dona Ana.

In Lagos Historic Center and City Center
The historic center of Lagos is the heart of the city.
Enclosed by ancient 16th-century walls, this area is a maze of cobbled streets filled with restaurants, shops, and cafes.
You should stay in this district:
- If you don’t have a car, as the train and bus stations are walking distance.
- If you love going out at night, as this is where all the bars and lively spots are located.
This is the perfect area to see:
- Church of Santo António, famous for its incredibly detailed golden interior.
- The Slave Market Museum, a significant historical site in the main square.
- Forte da Ponta da Bandeira, a 17th-century maritime fort guarding the harbor entrance.
- Governor’s Castle, showcasing the city’s defensive history.
Where to Stay in Lagos Historic Center and modern city center?

- Villa Zawaia: A cozy B&B in the old town. Elegant double rooms from 150€, breakfast included. Strong points: peaceful atmosphere, small plunge pool, excellent breakfast.
- The MN56: Located in the heart of the center. Modern double rooms starting at 260€, breakfast included. Strong points: central location, rooftop swimming pool, very clean and stylish. The best high-end hotel in Lagos historic center!

In The Marina & Avenue District
The Marina de Lagos and the main Avenida constitute the modern waterfront of the city.
Located right next to the old town, this area is great if you want a sea view while still being in the city. You will also be close to the famous Meia Praia beach and the numerous boat tours departing daily.
You should really stay in the Marina district if you want:
- Easy access to boat tours to the famous caves and Ponta da Piedade.
- A modern atmosphere with plenty of international restaurants and bars.
- To be close to the train station.
This district is perfect to discover:
- Lagos Marina, where you can book the cave boat trips and dolphin watching tours.
- Replica of the Caravel Boa Esperança, a historical ship docked in the harbor.

- Dom Pedro Lagos: Situated right on Meia Praia beach. Studios and apartments from 85€. Strong points: Pool + separate children’s pool, large lawn areas, beachfront location. An affordable option right by the sea!
- Uma Casa a Beira Sol: Located near the lighthouse and beaches. Traditional rooms with a garden view from 110€, breakfast included. Strong points: beautiful swimming pool, large lush garden, very homey feel, delicious breakfast. My favorite hotel for a budget stay in Lagos!

Where to Stay in Lagos with Family
- Clube Porto Mos: Located on a hill overlooking Porto de Mós beach. Apartments for 4 people from 120€. Strong points: superb sea views, close to both the beach and the city center, indoor and outdoor pools, kitchenette in rooms. A great option right by the sea!
- Boavista Golf & Spa: Located just west of Lagos. Luxury villas and large apartments from 130€. Strong points: quiet environment, indoor and outdoor pools, near the Golf. My favorite for its excellent value for money for families!
- Dom Pedro Lagos: Situated right on Meia Praia beach. Apartments for 4 people from 145€. Strong points: Pool + separate children’s pool, large lawn areas, beachfront location.
- Giramar Apartments: Located 15 minutes walk from the center. Cosy 2-bedroom apartments with kitchen from 170€. Strong points: two pools, spacious for families, calm environment.

If you are looking for the best hotel in Lagos, I recommend you the superb Boutique Hotel Vivenda Miranda.
Another incredible 5-star option for golf lovers is the Palmares Signature Apartments, which offers panoramic ocean views and luxury apartments from 260€.
And if you’re looking for something a little more affordable but still luxurious, you should book a night or more at The Editory By The Sea or the excellent Vila Luna Guesthouse (very limited availability!)
