Auckland’s Central Business District (CBD) is the heart of the city.

This area is packed with shops, restaurants, and the city’s main transport hubs, making it a very convenient base for exploring.

It’s the best area to easily discover the city’s main attractions.

You should stay in this district:

• For a first time stay, especially if you want to explore Auckland’s best places to visit on foot.
• To easily access transport to other parts of the city and the surrounding islands.
• If you enjoy city life, with plenty of bars, eateries, and entertainment options.
• For a culture-filled trip.

This is the perfect area to see:

• The Sky Tower, offering panoramic views of the city from its observation deck.
• Queen Street, the main shopping street, filled with international and local brands.
• Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, home to an extensive collection of New Zealand and international art.
• Britomart, a stylish precinct with designer boutiques, bars, and restaurants housed in restored heritage buildings.
• Albert Park, a beautiful Victorian park perfect for a relaxing walk.
• The Civic, a historic and atmospheric theatre for shows and events.

In Viaduct Harbour

Viaduct Harbour, a short walk from the CBD, is Auckland’s premier waterfront destination.

This lively marina area is known for its upscale restaurants, trendy bars, and luxury yachts, offering a sophisticated and vibrant atmosphere.

Staying in Viaduct Harbour allows you to enjoy beautiful water views and be at the center of Auckland’s social scene.

You should really stay in Viaduct Harbour:

• To experience Auckland’s nightlife, with many popular bars and restaurants.

This district is perfect for discovering:

• The New Zealand Maritime Museum, where you can learn about the country’s seafaring history.
• Wynyard Quarter, a newer waterfront development with parks, restaurants, and markets.
• Silo Park, which hosts outdoor movies and events during the summer.
• Boat tours and ferry trips that depart from the harbour to nearby islands like Waiheke.
• Excellent restaurants offering fresh seafood and international cuisine.

Where to Stay in Auckland on a Budget

If you’re traveling on a budget, here are a few great hotels for a stay in Auckland without spending too much:

• LyLo Auckland: Located in the CBD. Pod-style beds in shared rooms start from 40€, private rooms also available. Strong points: very clean, great central location, modern design. This is a great choice for a cheap stay in Auckland.
• Adina Apartment Hotel Auckland Britomart: Situated near Spark Arena and the Britomart precinct. Studio apartments from 70€. Strong points: spacious rooms with kitchenettes, close to transport links and a supermarket.
• Travelodge Hotel Auckland, Wynyard Quarter: Located in the modern Wynyard Quarter. Comfortable, modern double rooms from 85€. Strong points: quiet but central location, very comfortable beds, close to restaurants and the waterfront. A great value choice for its prime location.

• Oaks Auckland Hotel: A short walk from Britomart and Spark Arena. One and two-bedroom apartments from 200€. Strong points: apartments with kitchen and laundry facilities, spacious,very good location.
• Mercure Auckland Queen Street: Located in the entertainment district near the Town Hall. Offers family rooms from 250€. Strong points: convenient central location, very quiet, good value for families wanting to be in the city.
