In Uluwatu and Nusa Dua (South Bali)

The southern peninsula of Bali offers two very different vibes: Uluwatu features dramatic cliffs and surf breaks, while Nusa Dua is a gated area with calm beaches and large resorts.

This region is home to some of the most beautiful white sand beaches in Bali.

You can stay in the South of Bali:

• If you want luxury and privacy, particularly in Nusa Dua.
• For a honeymoon, thanks to the romantic cliffside views in Uluwatu.
• If you are an experienced surfer, as Uluwatu has world-class waves.
• For families, as Nusa Dua beaches are calm and safe for swimming.

Best things to see and do in Uluwatu and Nusa Dua:

• Uluwatu Temple, perched on a high cliff, famous for its sunset views and Kecak fire dance shows.
• Padang Padang Beach, a beautiful small cove accessible by stairs.
• Waterblow Nusa Dua, where waves crash dramatically against the rocks.
• Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park, home to one of the tallest statues in the world.
• Sundays Beach Club, for a relaxing day on a pristine private beach.

The Best Hotels to Stay in South Bali

• MERUSAKA Nusa Dua: This 5-star resort has direct access to Nusa Dua beach. It offers elegant rooms and suites with pool access options from 250€. Strong points: three-tiered infinity pool, private beach area, very extensive breakfast buffet.
• AYANA Resort and Spa, BALI: A huge 5-star cliff-top resort in Jimbaran. Luxurious rooms with ocean views and access to 14 swimming pools from 450€. Strong points: home to the famous Rock Bar for sunset, private beach club, multiple restaurants. My favorite hotel for a romantic stay in South Bali!
• The Apurva Kempinski Bali: This 5-star hotel is a beachfront masterpiece in Nusa Dua. Grand rooms and suites, some with private pools, start from 500€. Strong points: spectacular architecture, a 60-meter swimming pool, award-winning spa. This is simply one of the most incredible luxury hotels in Bali!

In Seminyak and Canggu Districts (Southwest coast)

Located on the southwest coast, Seminyak and Canggu are the trendiest areas in Bali.

Seminyak is known for its upscale shopping and dining, while Canggu has a more laid-back, surfer vibe.

Staying in this area gives you access to the best beach clubs and nightlife on the island.

You should really stay in Seminyak or Canggu:

• If you are looking for great nightlife and trendy cafes.
• To enjoy sunsets on the beach with a cocktail in hand.
• If you want a modern vibe with plenty of western food options.

This area is perfect for discovering:

• Potato Head Beach Club, one of the most famous beach clubs in Seminyak.
• Batu Bolong Beach, the heart of Canggu and a great spot for beginner surfers.
• Tanah Lot Temple, a sea temple located on a rock formation, just a 20-minute drive from Canggu.
• Finns Recreation Club, offering a water park and sports facilities.
• The many boutiques, selling designer clothes and jewelry.

In Ubud District (Center of the island)

Ubud is the cultural and spiritual heart of Bali, located in the center of the island.

Surrounded by rainforests and terraced rice paddies, it is a very green and peaceful area, though the center can be quite busy.

It’s the best area to discover traditional Balinese culture and arts.

You should stay in Ubud:

• For a first time stay, as it is centrally located for day trips.
• If you love nature, yoga, and healthy food.
• To explore famous temples and royal palaces.
• For a relaxing trip surrounded by jungle views.

This is the perfect area to see:

• Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, a nature reserve with hundreds of monkeys and ancient temples.
• Ubud Royal Palace, located right in the center, where you can watch traditional Legong dance performances.
• Campuhan Ridge Walk, a scenic hiking trail with beautiful green views.
• Tegalalang Rice Terrace, the famous stepped rice fields just a short drive north.
• Ubud Art Market, perfect for buying handmade bags, clothes, and souvenirs.

Where to Stay in Ubud?

• Kastara Resort: This 5-star hotel is located just a 10-minute drive from Ubud center. It offers luxurious suites with jungle views from 250€. Strong points: impressive split-level infinity pool, top-class service, spa and wellness center. The perfect choice for a luxury stay in Ubud.

In Lovina (North Coast)

Lovina is located on the North coast of Bali, far from the busy south.

It is famous for its black volcanic sand beaches and calm waters.

Staying in Lovina allows you to see a more authentic and quiet side of the island.

You should stay in Lovina if you want:

• To escape the crowds and traffic of the south.
• To see wild dolphins at sunrise, the area’s main attraction.
• For snorkeling and diving, as the reefs here are well preserved.

This district is perfect to discover:

• Banjar Hot Springs, sacred hot springs set in a tropical garden.
• Gitgit Waterfall, an impressive waterfall located in the mountains nearby.
• Brahmavihara-Arama, Bali’s largest Buddhist monastery.

The best hotels in Lovina

• The Grand Villandra Resort: Located directly on Lovina Beach. Clean and simple double rooms in traditional bungalows from 95€, breakfast included. Strong points: swimming pool right by the sea, quiet location, staff can arrange dolphin watching tours directly from the hotel.
• Maha Hills Resort Sambangan: Situated in the green hills above Lovina, near the waterfalls. Modern, luxurious suites with breathtaking valley views from 150€. Strong points: stunning infinity pool, peaceful and remote atmosphere, excellent for a nature escape. My favorite hotel for a relaxing stay in the North of Bali!
• The Lovina: A 5-star resort offering suites and villas with private pools. From 120€, breakfast included. Strong points: large main pool, spa, beach access, very family friendly. The best upscale hotel in the North of Bali.

Where to Stay in Bali on a Budget

If you’re traveling on a budget, here are a few great hotels for a stay in Bali without spending too much:

• Kos One Hostel: Located in Canggu. Boutique hostel with capsule beds from 20€. Strong points: huge jacuzzi style pool, social vibe, great design. This is definitely a great choice if you want to stay in Bali for cheap. A great choice for cheap accommodation in Bali.
• Adil Villa & Guest House: Guest house located in the heart of Ubud. Simple double room from 30€, breakfast included. Strong points: swimming pool, beautiful garden, perfect location for exploring on foot. This is another great choice if you want to stay in central Bali for cheap.
  
• Grandmas Plus Hotel Legian: Located in Seminyak, just a 5-minute walk from the beach. Modern double room from 45€, breakfast included. Strong points: lively area, good value for money, swimming pool. Another great option for a cheap stay in Bali’s most active area.

Where to Stay in Bali with Family

• Kuta Seaview Boutique Resorts: Located right on the famous Kuta Beach. Offers spacious family rooms from 170€, breakfast included. Strong points: direct beach access, large swimming pool with a kids’ area, central location close to shops and restaurants.
• Melia Bali: Located in Nusa Dua. Family rooms and suites from 200€, breakfast included. Strong points: massive lagoon pool, kids club, playground, safe private beach. You should really consider this place if you’re traveling to Bali as a family.
• Padma Resort Legian: Between Seminyak and Kuta. Family rooms available from 220€. Strong points: five swimming pools, water slides, dedicated family block.
