In District 1 (City Center)

District 1 is the heart of Ho Chi Minh and the main commercial and administrative hub.

This area is packed with French colonial architecture, busy markets, and modern skyscrapers, offering an energetic atmosphere.

It’s the best area to discover the city’s must-see attractions easily.

You should stay in this district:

  • For a first time stay, as it’s close to all the major sights and very walkable.
  • To explore historical sites and museums.
  • If you love going out at night, with endless options from rooftop bars to the lively Bui Vien Walking Street.

This is the perfect area to see:

  • Ben Thanh Market, the city’s most famous market, perfect for shopping and tasting local street food.
  • Reunification Palace, a historic landmark that was the former home and workplace of the President of South Vietnam.
  • Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral, a stunning basilica built in the late 1880s by French colonists.
  • Central Post Office, a beautiful example of French colonial architecture, still in operation.
  • War Remnants Museum, offering a sobering look into the Vietnam War.
  • Ho Chi Minh Opera House, an elegant colonial building hosting cultural performances.
  • Nguyen Hue Walking Street, a wide pedestrian promenade popular in the evening.

In District 3

District 3, located right next to District 1, offers a more local and authentic experience while still being very central.

It’s known for its tree-lined streets, colonial villas, and a more laid-back atmosphere compared to its bustling neighbor.

Staying in District 3 lets you discover a less touristy but equally charming side of Ho Chi Minh.

  • To stay in a central area with a more relaxed vibe.

This district is perfect for discovering:

  • Tan Dinh Church, the famous “pink church” with its striking French colonial architecture.
  • Xa Loi Pagoda, a significant Buddhist temple in the city’s history.
  • Turtle Lake, a popular local hangout spot, especially in the evening.
  • Local coffee shops, for a taste of Vietnam’s famous coffee culture.
  • Street food stalls, offering authentic Vietnamese dishes at affordable prices.
