In Zante Town

Zante Town is the capital and main port of the island.

With its Venetian architecture, charming squares, and bustling harbor, it offers a more authentic Greek island experience compared to the beach resorts.

You should stay in this part of the island if you want:

• To be in a central location to easily explore all of Zakynthos.
• A wide selection of restaurants, cafes, and shops.
• A more cultural stay, with access to museums and historic churches.
• A lively evening atmosphere without the intensity of the party resorts.

This is the perfect area to see:

• Solomos Square, the main square surrounded by neoclassical buildings, including the Byzantine Museum.
• The Venetian Castle on Bohali Hill, offering panoramic views of the town and the sea.
• The Church of Saint Dionysios, the island’s patron saint, located along the harbor.
• The waterfront promenade, perfect for an evening stroll and dinner at a seaside taverna.
• Alexander Roma Street, the main shopping street with a variety of boutiques and souvenir shops.

Where to Stay in Zante Town?

• Phoenix Hotel: Situated on Solomos Square, in the heart of the town. Modern double rooms from 120€, breakfast included. Strong points: excellent location for shops and restaurants, very good breakfast, spacious room. A great choice for a first-time stay in Zakynthos.
• Bitzaro Boutique Hotel: A stylish hotel a few steps from the main shopping street. Elegantly decorated rooms starting from 150€, with breakfast. Strong points: modern design, fantastic breakfast, helpful staff.
• Diana Hotel: Near Saint Mark’s Square. Classic and spacious double rooms from 170€, breakfast included. Strong points: rooftop pool, spa facilities, excellent service. My favorite hotel in Zante Town for a comfortable and central stay!
• Capolavoro Suites: In the heart of Zante’s old town. Individually designed suites starting from 200€, breakfast included. Strong points: beautiful decor, central location for exploring, beds are incredibly comfortable, warm and welcoming staff. This is the best choice for a high end stay in Zante town!

In the villages on the North-East Coast

The villages along the north-east coast, like Tsilivi, Alykes, and Alikanas, are some of the most popular resort areas on the island.

These towns offer a great balance of beautiful sandy beaches, plenty of amenities, and a lively but not overwhelming atmosphere.

This part of the coast is particularly well-suited for families and couples looking for a relaxed beach holiday.

You should really stay on the North-East Coast if you want:

• A classic beach resort holiday with all the conveniences.
• If you are traveling with family, thanks to the calm, shallow waters and family-friendly activities.
• A good variety of restaurants, bars, and shops within walking distance.
• To be well-located for boat trips to the famous Shipwreck Beach and Blue Caves.

This district is perfect for discovering:

• Tsilivi Beach, a long, sandy blue-flag beach with numerous water sports.
• Tsilivi Water Park, a fun day out for the whole family.
• Alykes and Alikanas Beaches, known for their fine sand and calm, clear waters.
• The salt flats at Alykes, which give the area its name.
• Boat excursions that depart daily from the small harbors to the north of the island.

Here are my favorite hotels on the North-East Coast

• Olea All Suite Hotel: This 5-star hotel is set on a hill overlooking Tsilivi. It offers unique suites, some with swim-up access to the lake-like pool or with private pool. Rates start from 450€, breakfast included. Strong points: incredible architecture, stunning pool area, top-class restaurants, and a serene spa. This is simply the best luxury hotel in Zakynthos!

In Laganas

Laganas is the undisputed party capital of Zakynthos.

Located on the south coast, its long sandy beach and famous “Strip” are lined with countless bars, nightclubs, and fast-food restaurants.

This area is the hotspot for young visitors looking to party all night long.

You should stay in Laganas if you want:

• To experience Zakynthos’s famous nightlife
• To be in a very lively area
• To be on a long sandy beach perfect for relaxing during the day.

This is the perfect area to see:

• The Laganas Strip, the heart of the action with famous clubs like Rescue Club and Zeros.
• Laganas Beach, a 9km stretch of sand where you can relax after a night out.
• Cameo Island, a small picturesque island connected by a wooden bridge, which turns into a club at night.
• Boat trips to spot Caretta-Caretta turtles, as Laganas Bay is a protected nesting area.
• Marathonisi (Turtle Island), easily reachable by renting a small boat from the beach.

The Best Hotels to Stay in Laganas

• Cactus Hotel: Located just off the main strip but still very close to the action. Modern and clean double rooms from 90€, breakfast included. Strong points: large pool area, lively bar, great location to enjoy the nightlife.
• Agave Boutique Hotel: A family-run property about a 10-minute walk from the beach and the main strip. Stylish and bright room from 100€. Strong points: friendly owners, quiet location away from the noise, excellent value for money.
• Gardelli Resort: Set in a quieter part of Laganas, right on the beach. Offers modern rooms and apartments, some with swim-up access, from 180€, breakfast included. Strong points: beachfront location, beautiful pool, relaxed atmosphere.
• Domes Aulus Zante, Autograph Collection: This 5-star all-inclusive resort is located at the quieter end of Laganas beach. Elegant rooms and suites from 350€, all inclusive. Strong points: beautiful design, excellent food and drinks, multiple pools, and a serene atmosphere. This is my recommendation for a luxury stay in Laganas!

In the villages on the South-East Coast

The south-east coast is home to popular resorts like Kalamaki and Argassi, as well as the more tranquil and scenic Vassilikos peninsula.

This area offers a great variety, from the family-friendly beaches of Kalamaki to the stunning, protected coves of Vassilikos.

It’s perfect for those who want beautiful beaches and a more relaxed environment, while still being close to amenities.

You should stay on the South-East Coast if you want:

• To be near some of the island’s best sandy beaches.
• A quieter alternative to Laganas, especially in Kalamaki and Vassilikos.
• For a family holiday, as Kalamaki beach has very shallow, calm waters.
• To connect with nature, as the Vassilikos peninsula is largely protected.

Best things to see and do around the South-East Coast:

• Kalamaki Beach, an extension of Laganas beach and a key nesting ground for loggerhead turtles.
• Banana Beach and St. Nicholas Beach in Vassilikos, famous for their golden sand and water sports.
• Gerakas Beach, a protected turtle beach with a unique natural landscape at the tip of the peninsula.
• Argassi, a resort close to Zante Town with a narrow beach but a good selection of bars and restaurants.
• The National Marine Park of Zakynthos, which covers this entire coastline.

The Best Hotels to Stay on the South-East Coast

Where to Stay in Zakynthos on a Budget

If you’re traveling on a budget, here are a few great hotels for a stay in Zakynthos without spending too much:

• Elena’s Seafront Studios: Located in Argassi, within walking distance of restaurants and the sea. Comfy rooms from 60€. Strong points: very friendly family owners, direct access to the sea, and a quiet yet central location.
• Sofia – Yiota Studios & Apartments: Located in Tsilivi, about a 5-minute walk from the beach. Well-kept studios from 65€. Strong points: great location, very clean, excellent welcome from the owners. An excellent budget choice in a popular resort.
  
• Alamis Apartments: Located in Tsilivi, just a few minutes’ walk from the beach. Offers clean studios and apartments with kitchenettes from 65€. Strong points: great location, lovely pool area, very friendly staff.
• Rose Club Hotel Apartments: Situated in Laganas, perfect for those wanting to be close to the nightlife. Apartments from 80€. Strong points: very close to the strip, lively pool and bar area, popular with young travelers. A great option for a party holiday on a budget.

Where to Stay in Zakynthos with Family

• Zarkadis Beach Apartments: Right on the sandy beach of Alykes. Family apartments with kitchenettes from 150€. Strong points: unbeatable beachfront location, calm and shallow water perfect for kids, close to tavernas and shops.
• Hotel Varres: Situated on a hill just outside Zante Town. Offers family rooms and suites from 170€, breakfast included. Strong points: large swimming pool with a kids’ section, playground, and quiet location but still close to the capital.
• Aliv stone suites & spa: Located near Katastari, offering a more rural and quiet setting. Provides spacious suites and private villas perfect for families, from 300€, breakfast included. Strong points: luxurious stone-built suites, private pools available, spa for parents, very peaceful.
• Atlantica Eleon Grand Resort: A 5-star resort located on the coast near Tsilivi. Offers family rooms and swim-up rooms from 400€ with all-inclusive options.
