Split Old Town

The historic center of Split is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

This neighborhood is a charming labyrinth of cobbled streets, with lively squares and ancient buildings showcasing the city’s rich history.

Staying in the old town is the best way to immerse yourself in Split’s unique atmosphere, with plenty of outdoor cafés, traditional restaurants, and bustling markets.

It’s also the perfect location if you want to explore the city on foot, as all main attractions are just minutes away.

Plus, the Old Town is well-served by public transport, making it easy to visit other parts of Split!

You should stay in the Old Town if:

This neighborhood is ideal to discover:

• Diocletian’s Palace: a very well-preserved Roman palace complex dating back to the 4th century.
• The Cathedral of Saint Domnius: one of the oldest Catholic cathedrals still in use today.
• Pazar market: an outdoor market offering fresh, local products.
• Riva promenade: a lively seaside promenade, perfect if you want to relax or have a drink.
• Museums and art galleries: to learn more about Croatian history and culture.
• The Game of Thrones Museum, since parts of the famous TV series were filmed in Split.

Strong points: very spacious rooms, prime location. An excellent choice for a romantic stay in Split’s historic center!
• Cornaro Hotel: This luxury hotel is just a 2-minute walk from the palace. You will stay in modern and spacious rooms, from 430€, breakfast included. Strong points: rooftop pool and jacuzzis, outstanding breakfast, attentive staff. This is definitely the best luxury hotel in Split Old Town!

Near Bacvice and Firule Beaches

Located east of the city center, the neighborhoods of Bačvice and Firule are famous for their sandy beaches and laid-back atmosphere.

These areas offer an ideal blend of beachside relaxation and close proximity to the attractions of the city center.

If you choose to stay here, you can enjoy sunny beach days and lively evenings at local bars and restaurants.

There, you can also find supermarkets, bakeries, and convenient local shops.

Public transportation is also easily accessible from these neighborhoods.

You should stay in Bačvice et Firule districts:

• En Route Hostel: Located 10 minutes’ walk from Old Town or the beach. Dormitory bed from 28€. Strong points: very clean, comfy beds, spacious bathrooms. A great budget choice for staying in Split.
• Rooms Šećer: Located 5 minutes walk from the Old Town entrance. Double room with shared bathroom from 60€. Strong points: welcoming staff, excellent location, very clean.
• BVB Rooms Split: Located 500 meters from the center. Room starts at 70€. Strong points: well-equipped, functional, comfortable beds. Another great place for staying cheaply in Split’s city center.
• Hotel Elu Iris: Located 1.7 km from Firule Beach. Modern rooms with garden or sea views from 75€. Strong points: friendly staff, comfortable beds, nice breakfast.

Where to stay in Split with your family

• Hotel Elu Iris: Located east of the city center. Apartment for 4 people with balcony from 140€. Strong points: breakfast included, close to the beach, comfortable.
• Miraval Luxury Rooms: Located a 5-minute walk from the historic center. Modern and elegant quadruple room from 205€. Strong points: great location, very comfortable, quiet. I highly recommend this hotel for a luxury family stay in Split!
