In Valencia’s Historic Center (Ciutat Vella)

The historic center of Valencia, or Ciutat Vella, is the heart of the city.

Most of the neighborhood is a maze of charming narrow streets and historic buildings, creating an authentic atmosphere.

It’s the best area to discover the city’s main attractions easily.

You should stay in this district:

  • For a first time stay
  • To explore all main landmarks easily, without needing to take public transport all the time.
  • If you love going out at night, with all the tapas bars.

This is the perfect area to see:

  • Valencia Cathedral, the city’s most iconic monument, famous for housing what is claimed to be the Holy Grail.
  • Mercado Central (Central Market), an impressive Art Nouveau building full of fresh local products.
  • La Lonja de la Seda (Silk Exchange), a masterpiece of Valencian Gothic architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
  • Torres de Serranos, one of the old city gates offering great views over Valencia.
  • Plaza de la Virgen, a beautiful square surrounded by historic buildings.
  • El Carmen district, known for its bohemian vibe and vibrant street art.

Where to Stay in Valencia’s Historic Center?

In Ruzafa District

Ruzafa, just south of the historic center, is Valencia’s most trendy neighborhood.

This is a really cool area, with a bohemian and artistic atmosphere.

Staying in Ruzafa lets you discover a more modern and creative side of Valencia.

You should really stay in Ruzafa:

  • If you’re looking for a lively, local experience with a hipster vibe.
  • If you are a foodie, with its many brunch cafés, specialty coffee shops, and innovative restaurants.
  • To enjoy the best nightlife in town.

This district is perfect for discovering:

  • Ruzafa Market, a colorful food market that’s a bit less touristy than the Central Market.
  • Independent art galleries and quirky boutiques.
  • Trendy bars and cafés, perfect for enjoying a drink on a terrace.
  • Street art hidden in its alleys.
  • Parque Central, a large, beautifully designed park right next to the neighborhood.

  • Petit Palace Ruzafa: Located on a main street in the district. Clean, modern double rooms from 120€, breakfast for 14€. Strong points: great location for exploring, friendly staff, comfortable rooms.
  • Soho Valencia: On the edge of Ruzafa, close to the train station. Bright, spacious apartments and rooms from 140€. Strong points: kitchenette in rooms, good for families, helpful staff. Excellent value for money!
  • One Shot Colón 46: Situated on the edge of Ruzafa, right on a major shopping street. Stylish, modern rooms with a focus on design, starting from 160€, with breakfast available for 15€. Strong points: excellent location for both Ruzafa and the city center, sleek design, and very quiet rooms.
  • YOURS boutique hotel: A stylish hotel in the heart of Ruzafa. Minimalist double rooms from 180€. Strong points: quiet patio with a swimming pool, beautiful design, excellent location.

Poblats Marítims, the Best Beach Area in Valencia

Poblats Marítims is Valencia’s seaside district, including the famous Malvarrosa beach and the authentic El Cabanyal neighborhood.

Just 20 minutes from the city center by bus or tram, it’s the perfect spot to combine cultural visits with relaxing at the beach.

You can stay in Poblats Marítims:

  • If you want to enjoy the beach during your stay, and still easily reach Valencia’s historic center.
  • For a family holiday, as the beach is very wide and suitable for children.
  • If you love seafood, with many great restaurants along the promenade.

Best things to see and do around Poblats Marítims:

  • Malvarrosa Beach, the most famous in Valencia, with its long stretch of golden sand.
  • Paseo Marítimo, a lively promenade lined with restaurants and cafés. It’s a great place to walk or bike.
  • El Cabanyal neighborhood, a former fishing village known for its colorful, tiled houses and authentic charm.
  • Valencia Marina, a modern port area with bars and restaurants.
  • Veles e Vents building, an iconic piece of modern architecture in the marina.

The Best Hotels to Stay Near Valencia’s Beach

Where to Stay in Valencia on a Budget

If you’re traveling on a budget, here are a few great hotels for a stay in Valencia without spending too much:

  • The River Hostel: Located next to the Turia Gardens, a 10-minute walk from the cathedral. Dorm beds from 20€ or double room from 70€. Strong points: great location, very clean, friendly staff. This is definitely a great choice if you want to stay in Valencia for cheap.
  • Ibis Budget Valencia Centro Puerto: Located between the City of Arts and Sciences and the port. Clean, functional double rooms from 70€, breakfast for 8€. Strong points: excellent value for money, reliable and clean, good location for exploring both the beach and modern attractions.
  • Original Domino House: Between the city center and the beach. Stylishly decorated double room from 95€. Strong points: close to a metro station, nice design, comfortable beds. Another great place to stay in Valencia on a budget.

Where to Stay in Valencia with Family

  • Valenciaflats Ciudad de las Ciencias: Just a short walk from the City of Arts and Sciences. Quadruple apartments from 140€. Strong points: rooftop terrace, perfect for visiting the aquarium and science museum, spacious rooms.
  • Ramirez Flats Valencia: Next to the Turia Gardens. Family apartments from 150€. Strong points: quiet location, well-equipped kitchen, close to parks and attractions.
  • Soho Valencia: Located in Ruzafa. Modern and spacious apartments for up to 4 people from 160€. Strong points: kitchenette for preparing meals, great central location, very comfortable. You should really consider this place if you’re traveling to Valencia as a family.
