In Bordeaux Historic Center

The historic center of Bordeaux, or Vieux Bordeaux, is the heart of the city.

Most of the neighborhood is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s a lively area with a truly authentic atmosphere.

It’s the best area to discover the city’s must see attractions easily.

You should stay in this district:

  • For a first time stay, especially if you want to explore Bordeaux’s best places to visit on foot.
  • If you love going out at night, with plenty of wine bars, classic restaurants, and busy squares.
  • For a culture-filled trip.

This is the perfect area to see:

  • Place de la Bourse, the city’s most iconic square, famous for its Miroir d’Eau (Water Mirror).
  • Bordeaux Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-André), an impressive medieval building where you can climb the separate Pey-Berland tower for great views.
  • Grosse Cloche, the second remaining gate from the old city walls and the belfry of the former town hall.
  • Rue Sainte-Catherine, the longest pedestrian shopping street in Europe.
  • Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, one of Europe’s most beautiful 18th-century theaters.
  • Porte Cailhau, a fairytale-like defensive gate that offers views over the Pont de Pierre bridge.
