Its charming cobblestone streets, Venetian architecture, and lively squares create a unique atmosphere.
It’s the best area to stay if you want to explore the island’s history.
You should stay in this district:
- For a first time stay, especially if you want to discover Corfu’s main sights on foot.
- To explore all main landmarks easily, as it’s the island’s main transport hub.
- If you love going out at night, with plenty of restaurants and bars.
This is the perfect area to see:
- The Old Fortress and the New Fortress, offering panoramic views of the town and the sea.
- Spianada Square, one of the largest squares in Europe, perfect for a coffee break.
- The Liston, an arcade lined with cafes built during the French occupation.
- Saint Spyridon Church, which houses the relics of the island’s patron saint.
- The Museum of Asian Art, housed in the Palace of St. Michael and St. George.

In Paleokastritsa
Paleokastritsa is known for being one of the most beautiful spots on Corfu.
Located on the northwest coast, it’s famous for its dramatic cliffs, six stunning bays with turquoise waters, and lush green scenery.
It is a great area for those who love nature and beaches.
You should really stay in Paleokastritsa:
- If you’re looking for breathtaking scenery and beautiful beaches.
- If you love water activities, like boat trips to sea caves, snorkeling, and swimming.
- To enjoy a relaxing holiday.
This district is perfect for discovering:
- Paleokastritsa Monastery, perched on a hill with amazing views over the coast.
- The numerous coves and beaches, such as Agios Spiridon, which is the main beach.
- Boat tours to the sea caves, including the famous Blue Eye Cave.
- Angelokastro, a Byzantine castle on a nearby clifftop offering incredible sunset views.
- La Grotta Beach Bar, a unique bar built into the cliffs, perfect for a swim and a drink.

- Akrotiri Beach Resort Hotel: Beautiful 5 stars hotel built on a peninsula with access to two beaches. Modern rooms with sea views from 300€, breakfast included. Strong points: fantastic location with sea views from every room, two pools, private beach access. This is my recommendation for a luxury stay in Paleokastritsa!

In the North of the Island
The north of Corfu is known for its beautiful coastline, charming fishing villages, and mix of pebble coves and larger resorts.
Staying in the North allows you to enjoy a traditional Greek village atmosphere with plenty of amenities.
You can stay in the North:
- If you want a mix of relaxation and nightlife, with traditional tavernas and cozy bars.
- For a family holiday, as the area offers calm beaches

In the South of the Island (Benitses)
The south of Corfu offers a more relaxed pace.
Benitses, a former fishing village just 12km from Corfu Town, is a convenient and charming base.
It has transformed into a relaxed resort that is great for families and couples, offering a mix of tradition and modern amenities.
You should stay in Benitses if you want:
- To be close to Corfu Town but in a quieter seaside setting.
- For easy access to both sandy and pebbly beaches.
- A good base for exploring the southern part of the island.
Best things to see and do around Benitses:
- The Achilleion Palace, a palace built for Empress Elisabeth of Austria, located in the nearby village of Gastouri.
- Benitses’ marina, a nice place for a walk to see the fishing boats.
- The Roman Baths ruins, located in the village.
- The Corfu Shell Museum, featuring a large collection of seashells from around the world.

If you’re traveling on a budget, here are a few great hotels for a stay in Corfu without spending too much:
- Kosmas Apartments & Studios: Located in the north, in the resort of Sidari. Simple, clean apartments with kitchenettes from 70€. Strong points: close to the famous Canal d’Amour, a nice pool area, and a very friendly, family-run atmosphere. An excellent budget choice for exploring the north.
- Maria & Olga Apartments: Situated in the peaceful area of Agios Georgios in the south. Well-equipped studios from 75€. Strong points: very close to a beautiful sandy beach, quiet and relaxing setting, and great hospitality from the owners.
- Villa Astrakeroula: Located in Astrakeri, a quiet fishing village in the north. Apartments with sea views from 80€. Strong points: beachfront location, very peaceful area, and traditional fish tavernas nearby. A great choice for a quiet getaway on a budget.
- Kalimera Studios and Apartments: Found in the lively resort of Ipsos, a short bus ride from Corfu Town. Simple studios from 85€. Strong points: close to the beach and nightlife, a lovely pool, and easy access to public transport for exploring the island.
- Bella Vista Beach Hotel and Studios: In Benitses. Simple, clean rooms and studios from 90€, with breakfast included. Strong points: very close to the beach, friendly staff, excellent value for money.

Where to Stay in Corfu with Family
- Panorama Sidari: In the northern resort of Sidari. Family rooms from 150€. Strong points: swimming pool, entertainment for all ages, central location.
- Almyros Beach: Located directly on the long, sandy beach of Almyros in the north. Offers spacious family rooms from 200€, with all-inclusive options available. - MarBella, Mar-Bella Collection: Located in Agios Ioannis Peristeron, south of Benitses. Spacious family rooms and suites from 350€, with all-inclusive options.
