In Palma Old Town (Casco Antiguo)
The Old Town of Palma, or Casco Antiguo, is the historic heart of the island’s capital.
With its beautiful small streets, local boutiques and nice squares, it’s the best district to stay in if you want to discover the city’s main monuments easily.
You should stay in this district:
- For a first time stay, as you will be close to everything.
- To explore everything on foot
- If you like shopping, with many boutiques on Passeig del Born.
- For the atmosphere, with plenty of cafés and restaurants.
This is the perfect area to see:
- La Seu Cathedral, the massive Gothic cathedral overlooking the sea.
- The Royal Palace of La Almudaina, an official residence of the Spanish royal family.
- Plaza Mayor, the central square of the city.
- Passeig del Born, a tree-lined avenue famous for luxury shops.
- Arab Baths, one of the few remnants of the Moorish city.
Where to Stay in Palma Old Town?
- Palladium Hotel: Located on the prestigious Paseo Mallorca, right between the Old Town and Santa Catalina. modern double rooms from 155€. Strong points: perfect location for shopping, fitness room, great views over the city.
- Ca n’Alexandre: Located in the Old Town in the former residence of a historical figure. Elegant rooms mixing modern comfort with classic elements from 175€. Strong points: historic charm, adults only, excellent location near the markets, friendly staff.
- Brondo Architect Hotel: Right in the center, just steps from the main shopping streets. Rooms feature a unique industrial bohemian design, starting from 175€. Strong points: rooftop terrace with a gym, very original decor, premium location. A great choice for its excellent value for money in the old town!
- Antigua Palma – Casa Noble: 5-star hotel set in a renovated historic house. elegant rooms from 370€. Strong points: rooftop terrace with a small pool, Hammam, incredible charm.
- Posada Terra Santa: Hidden away in a former 16th-century manor. Intimate and elegant rooms from 375€, breakfast included. Strong points: exclusive wellness area, a charming chill-out rooftop pool, and a very peaceful atmosphere. Perfect for a Romantic stay in Palma de Mallorca old town!

In Santa Catalina District and the modern part of Palma
Santa Catalina is located just west of the Old Town.
Once a fishing village, it is now the most trendy and cosmopolitan area of Palma.
You should really stay in Santa Catalina if you want:
- To enjoy the food scene, with the city’s best international restaurants.
- To experience the nightlife, as the area is full of bars and evening spots.
- A local vibe, especially around the market area.
This district is perfect to discover:
- Mercat de Santa Catalina, the oldest food market in Palma, perfect for tapas.
- Es Jonquet, a historic neighborhood featuring traditional windmills.
- Parc de Sa Feixina, a nice park connecting the district to the port.
- Calle Fábrica, a pedestrian street lined with terraces and restaurants.
Here are my favorite hotels in Santa Catalina and modern Palma
- Bordoy Continental Palma: On the edge of Santa Catalina. Classic double rooms from 175€. Strong points: private parking, gym, good location for both nightlife and sightseeing.
- Hotel Costa Azul: Located right on the promenade facing the marina, steps from Santa Catalina. Bright double rooms with sea views from 175€. Strong points: outdoor pool with harbor views, gym, and a great breakfast buffet.
- HM Palma Blanc: A new, modern hotel just a few minutes from the market. Contemporary rooms from 190€. Strong points: three swimming pools including one on the rooftop, great spa, and even a cinema room. Exceptional value for money!
- Protur Naisa Palma Hotel: Just a short walk from the port and Old Town. Modern double rooms from 250€, breakfast included. Strong points: indoor and outdoor pools, spa center, very comfortable beds. An excellent choice for a high-end stay in Palma!

In Paseo Marítimo Area
The Paseo Marítimo is the long seaside promenade that runs along Palma’s harbor.
This area offers spectacular views of the bay, the cathedral, and the superyachts docked in the marina.
You can stay in Paseo Marítimo:
- For the sea view.
- If you enjoy jogging or walking along the water
- For nightlife lovers, as major clubs and bars are located nearby.
- If you are renting a car, as parking is generally easier than in the Old Town.
Best things to see and do around Paseo Marítimo:
- Bellver Castle, a unique round castle on a hill with panoramic city views.
- Palma Auditorium, for concerts and cultural events.
- The Marina, to admire the boats and luxury yachts.

- Hotel Palma Bellver, Affiliated by Meliá: Located right on the Paseo Marítimo facing the marina. Bright rooms with balconies, most offering direct sea views, from 160€. Strong points: large outdoor pool, extensive breakfast buffet, stunning views of the cathedral and bay. A great choice for its excellent value for money!
- Hotel Victoria Gran Meliá: A 5-star hotel facing the marina. Elegant rooms from 270€. Strong points: large outdoor pool, terrace with cocktail bar, high-quality service. Perfect for a high-end stay with sea views!
- GPRO Valparaiso Palace & Spa: 5-start hotel located slightly up the hill in the Bonanova area. Quiet, spacious rooms with balconies from 280€. Strong points: huge gardens, two large swimming pools, padel court, one of the best spas in Palma. My recommendation if you’re looking for a resort-type hotel close to Palma!
On the other side of the Paseo Marítimo, inside the old town city walls, you also have these 2 stunning luxury boutique hotels:

- El Llorenç Parc de la Mar: This 5-star adults-only hotel offers a unique design near the cathedral. Stunning rooms from 460€. Near the Beach (Playa de Palma & Can Pastilla)
If you want to stay close to Palma de Mallorca and still enjoy the beach right next to your hotel, the area extending from Portixol to Can Pastilla is the best option.
This extensive coastline offers a nice sandy beaches and a long promenade lined with palm trees, shops, and restaurants, all while being just a 10-minute bus or taxi ride from Palma city center.
You should stay in this area if:
- You want to enjoy the beach
- You’re looking for better prices than in the city center
- You want to be close to the airport, which is just 5 minutes away.
- You enjoy cycling or long walks, as a beautiful bike path connects this area directly to the cathedral.
- You are traveling with kids
- You want a resort hotel with large pools and more space than in the city center.
Best things to see and do in this area:
- Palma Aquarium, one of the best marine parks in Europe.
- The Promenade, perfect for renting a bike and riding all the way to Palma.
- Purobeach Palma, a famous beach club for a chill afternoon.
- Playa de Palma, for water sports, swimming, and sunbathing.
The Best Hotels near the beach
- Hotel Helios Mallorca: Very close to the beach. Comfortable rooms surrounded by gardens from 100€. Strong points: large outdoor pool, heated indoor pool, very family-friendly. My favorite budget-friendly hotel in Palma.
- Hotel Las Arenas: Located right on the seafront in Can Pastilla. Bright rooms with balconies from 160€. Strong points: outdoor pool overlooking the sea, sky bar, very close to the beach.
- BG Java: A 4-star hotel located in a quiet part of Can Pastilla. Modern rooms from 175€. Strong points: wellness center with sauna and indoor pool, kid’s pool, excellent breakfast.
- AluaSoul Palma: An adults-only hotel facing the sea. Stylish, contemporary decor from 215€. Strong points: pool deck with sea views, calm atmosphere, buffet with show cooking. Perfect for couples looking for tranquility near the beach!
- Meliá Palma Bay: Located closer to the city, next to the convention center and Ca’n Pere Antoni beach. Minimalist, high-end rooms from 230€. Strong points: spectacular rooftop pool with views of the bay, access to the YHI Spa, very modern.

Where to Stay in Palma on a Budget
If you’re traveling on a budget, here are a few great hotels for a stay in Palma without spending too much:
- The BOC Hostels – City: Located 10 minutes walk from the intermodal bus and metro station. Bunk beds from 35€ and double rooms from 85€ per night. Strong points: nice terrace, laundry, modern facilities, shared kitchen.
- El Josemari Youth Hostel: Located in a former convent in the heart of the Old Town. Dormitory beds from 45€. Strong points: unique historic building, shared kitchen, very social atmosphere. For me the best hostel in Palma!
- Hotel Abelay: Just a few minutes’ walk from Plaza de España and the main bus/train station. Simple, functional double rooms from 90€. Strong points: excellent location for exploring the island by public transport, on-site restaurant, family atmosphere.
- Hotel Helios Mallorca: Very close to the beach. Comfortable rooms surrounded by gardens from 100€. Strong points: large outdoor pool, heated indoor pool, very family-friendly. Simply the best budget-friendly hotel in Palma!

Where to Stay in Palma with Family
Hotels offering family rooms and apartments are not very common in Palma, and they are also quite expensive. Here are the best ones.
- Aparthotel Playas Ca’s Saboners: Located in Palmanova, just a 15-minute drive from Palma (the only way to get a good price!). Fully equipped family apartments from 240€. Strong points: huge lagoon pool, supermarkets on-site, very close to the beach. Perfect if you have a rental car.
- Design Suites Palma: Located right in the historic center. Spacious multi-bedroom apartments from 330€. Strong points: fully equipped kitchen, authentic Mallorcan style, walking distance to all sights.
- Hotel Almudaina: Located on the main shopping avenue Jaime III. Spacious quadruple rooms from 340€. Strong points: amazing rooftop bar with city views, modern and clean, right in the middle of the action. A great choice for a high-end family stay!
- The Boc Suites: Located 5 minutes from Plaza de España. Family suites with full kitchens from 350€. Strong points: rooftop terrace, very modern facilities, convenient for taking the train to Soller or buses around the island.

If you are looking for the best hotel in Palma, I recommend the Can Bordoy Grand House & Garden, Sant Francesc Hotel Singular or El Llorenç Parc de la Mar (sea view)
And if you’re looking for something a little more affordable but still luxurious, you should book a night or more at Posada Terra Santa or Protur Naisa Palma Hotel.
