Patong Beach is the most famous and busiest area in Phuket. It’s the heart of the island’s nightlife and entertainment scene.
The area is centered around a long sandy beach and offers a huge variety of restaurants, shops, and bars.
You should stay in this district if you want:
- To be in the center of the action, especially if you love to go out at night.
 - A wide choice of restaurants, from street food to international food.
 - To enjoy water sports and a busy beach atmosphere.
 - For a trip with friends looking for fun.
 
This is the perfect area to see:
- Bangla Road, the epicenter of Phuket’s nightlife, famous for its vibrant bars, nightclubs, and street performances.
 - Patong Beach, a long stretch of sand ideal for sunbathing, swimming, and activities like jet skiing and parasailing.
 - Jungceylon Shopping Mall, a large shopping complex with international stores, restaurants, and a cinema.
 - Simon Cabaret Show, one of the island’s most famous ladyboy cabaret shows.
 - Malin Plaza and other night markets, perfect for tasting local street food and shopping for souvenirs.

 - Burasari Phuket: A tropical oasis just a short walk from the beach. Rooms with elegant Thai decor, some with direct pool access, from 160€. Strong points: beautiful pools set in a lush garden, very friendly staff, fantastic spa. A top choice for a relaxing and stylish stay in Patong.
 - Oceanfront Beach Resort: This 5-star hotel is situated on the quieter northern end of Patong. Modern rooms with ocean views start at 180€. Strong points: beautiful beachfront infinity pool, a relaxing atmosphere away from the crowds, and spacious rooms.
 - Kalima Resort & Spa: This 5-star resort is perched on a hillside overlooking Patong Bay. It offers spacious rooms with sea views from 220€, breakfast included. Strong points: incredible infinity pool, stunning views, free shuttle to Patong Beach. My recommendation for a luxurious stay with breathtaking scenery!
 - Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach: This 5-star hotel is on its own secluded beach. It offers stylish rooms starting from 300€, breakfast included. In Kata Beach
Kata Beach, located south of Patong, is a more relaxed and family-friendly area.
With its beautiful palm-lined beach and clearer waters, it offers a great balance between a peaceful holiday and having enough restaurants and activities nearby.
You should really stay in Kata Beach if you want:
- A family-friendly holiday, with a calm beach suitable for children.
 - To relax on a beautiful beach that is less crowded than Patong.
 - A good selection of restaurants and shops within walking distance.
 - To try surfing, as the waves are good for beginners during the low season.
 
This district is perfect for discovering:
- Kata Beach and Kata Noi Beach, two beautiful sandy bays ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling.
 - Karon Viewpoint, offering a famous panoramic view of three bays: Kata Noi, Kata, and Karon.
 - Surf House Phuket, where you can try flowboarding on an artificial wave.
 - Dino Park Mini Golf, a fun dinosaur-themed mini-golf course for the whole family.

Phuket Old Town is the cultural heart of the island, known for its well-preserved Sino-Portuguese architecture.
This area offers a completely different experience from the beach resorts, with a more authentic and local atmosphere.

If you’re traveling on a budget, here are a few great hotels for a stay in Phuket without spending too much:
- Book a Bed Poshtel: Located in Phuket Town, a short walk from the Old Town. Dormitory beds from 35€, and private double rooms from 50€. Strong points: outdoor swimming pool, very clean and modern design, great social atmosphere. An amazing choice for backpackers or budget travelers looking for style and comfort.
 - The Malika Hotel: Situated in Patong, about a 15-minute walk from the beach and Jungceylon shopping mall. Modern and clean double rooms from 60€. Strong points: rooftop swimming pool, friendly staff, great value for its location.
 - HOMA Phuket Town: A modern apartment hotel in Phuket Town. Bright studios with a kitchenette from 70€. Strong points: incredible rooftop infinity pool with amazing views, a large fitness center, and very comfortable rooms. Excellent value if you want great facilities on a budget.

- Sunwing Kamala Beach: Located directly on the calm Kamala Beach. It offers family rooms and suites from 180€. Strong points: multiple large pools with water slides, kids’ club, direct beach access. You should really consider this place if you’re traveling to Phuket as a family.
 - Phuket Graceland Resort and Spa: On Patong Beach, but in a quieter northern section. Family rooms from 200€, breakfast included. Strong points: huge swimming pools, a bowling alley, direct beach access.
 - Katathani Phuket Beach Resort: Located directly on the beautiful and calm Kata Noi Beach. This resort offers spacious family rooms and suites from 280€ and features six swimming pools, including a kids’ water park area and a kids’ club. Strong points: direct beach access, lots of activities for children, excellent facilities. It’s one of the best choices for a family beach holiday in Phuket.
