In Patong Beach

Patong Beach is the most famous and busiest area in Phuket. It’s the heart of the island’s nightlife and entertainment scene.

The area is centered around a long sandy beach and offers a huge variety of restaurants, shops, and bars.

You should stay in this district if you want:

• To be in the center of the action, especially if you love to go out at night.
• A wide choice of restaurants, from street food to international food.
• To enjoy water sports and a busy beach atmosphere.
• For a trip with friends looking for fun.

This is the perfect area to see:

• Bangla Road, the epicenter of Phuket’s nightlife, famous for its vibrant bars, nightclubs, and street performances.
• Patong Beach, a long stretch of sand ideal for sunbathing, swimming, and activities like jet skiing and parasailing.
• Jungceylon Shopping Mall, a large shopping complex with international stores, restaurants, and a cinema.
• Simon Cabaret Show, one of the island’s most famous ladyboy cabaret shows.
• Malin Plaza and other night markets, perfect for tasting local street food and shopping for souvenirs.

Where to Stay in Patong Beach?

• Hotel Clover Patong Phuket: Just a minute’s walk from Patong Beach. Stylish and modern rooms start at around 100€. Strong points: amazing rooftop pool with a jacuzzi and bar, great location close to the action but still quiet, excellent breakfast. A great choice for its excellent value for money in Patong.
• Baan Laimai Beach Resort & Spa: Located directly on Patong Beach. Spacious rooms with Thai-style decor from 150€, breakfast included. Strong points: fantastic lagoon-style pool, direct beach access, central to everything.
• Burasari Phuket: A tropical oasis just a short walk from the beach. Rooms with elegant Thai decor, some with direct pool access, from 160€. Strong points: beautiful pools set in a lush garden, very friendly staff, fantastic spa. A top choice for a relaxing and stylish stay in Patong.
• Oceanfront Beach Resort: This 5-star hotel is situated on the quieter northern end of Patong. Modern rooms with ocean views start at 180€. Strong points: beautiful beachfront infinity pool, a relaxing atmosphere away from the crowds, and spacious rooms.
• Kalima Resort & Spa: This 5-star resort is perched on a hillside overlooking Patong Bay. It offers spacious rooms with sea views from 220€, breakfast included. Strong points: incredible infinity pool, stunning views, free shuttle to Patong Beach. My recommendation for a luxurious stay with breathtaking scenery!
• Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach: This 5-star hotel is on its own secluded beach. It offers stylish rooms starting from 300€, breakfast included. Strong points: three large swimming pools, a beautiful reef for snorkeling, family-friendly facilities. My favorite hotel for a luxury stay in Patong!

In Kata Beach

Kata Beach, located south of Patong, is a more relaxed and family-friendly area.

With its beautiful palm-lined beach and clearer waters, it offers a great balance between a peaceful holiday and having enough restaurants and activities nearby.

You should really stay in Kata Beach if you want:

• A family-friendly holiday, with a calm beach suitable for children.
• To relax on a beautiful beach that is less crowded than Patong.
• A good selection of restaurants and shops within walking distance.
• To try surfing, as the waves are good for beginners during the low season.

This district is perfect for discovering:

• Kata Beach and Kata Noi Beach, two beautiful sandy bays ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling.
• Karon Viewpoint, offering a famous panoramic view of three bays: Kata Noi, Kata, and Karon.
• Surf House Phuket, where you can try flowboarding on an artificial wave.
• Dino Park Mini Golf, a fun dinosaur-themed mini-golf course for the whole family.
• Kata Night Market, a great place to sample local food and shop for souvenirs in a relaxed atmosphere.

Here are my favorite hotels in Kata Beach

• Chanalai Garden Resort: Just a 2-minute walk from Kata Beach. Rooms with sea or garden views from 110€, breakfast included. Strong points: two outdoor pools, great location, friendly staff.
• Katathani Phuket Beach Resort: Located right on Kata Noi Beach. It offers spacious rooms and suites from 200€, including breakfast. Strong points: six swimming pools, direct access to a stunning beach, excellent for families. My recommendation for a perfect beach holiday in Phuket!
• Sawasdee Village: Located a 10-minute walk from Kata Beach. Rooms designed in an ancient Thai style set within exotic gardens, starting from 300€, breakfast included. Strong points: incredible atmosphere, two beautiful swimming pools, a renowned spa. My favorite hotel for a romantic getaway in Kata!
• The Shore At Katathani: This 5-star, adults-only villa resort is located on Kata Noi Beach. It features luxurious pool villas starting from 500€ per night, with breakfast. Strong points: each villa has a private pool, stunning sea views, exceptional service. This is simply the best luxury hotel for couples in Phuket!

In Phuket Old Town

Phuket Old Town is the cultural heart of the island, known for its well-preserved Sino-Portuguese architecture.

This area offers a completely different experience from the beach resorts, with a more authentic and local atmosphere.

It’s the perfect place for those interested in history, culture, and amazing local food.

You can stay in Phuket Old Town:

• If you love history and architecture, and want to explore the charming streets on foot.
• For a culture-filled trip, with many temples, museums, and art galleries.
• If you are a foodie looking to taste authentic Southern Thai cuisine.
• To experience a more local side of Phuket, away from the main tourist beaches.

Best things to see and do around Phuket Old Town:

• Thalang Road, the main historical street with colorful buildings, boutiques, and cafes.
• Phuket Sunday Walking Street Market (Lard Yai), a vibrant market held on Thalang Road with food stalls and local crafts.
• Thai Hua Museum, which showcases the history of Chinese immigrants in Phuket.
• Jui Tui Shrine and other Chinese temples, offering a glimpse into the local spiritual life.
• Street Art, with many beautiful murals painted on the walls of old buildings.

• Courtyard by Marriott Phuket Town: A modern hotel in the heart of the Old Town. Stylish double rooms from 150€, breakfast included. Strong points: rooftop swimming pool, great views, very comfortable rooms.

Where to Stay in Phuket on a Budget

If you’re traveling on a budget, here are a few great hotels for a stay in Phuket without spending too much:

• Book a Bed Poshtel: Located in Phuket Town, a short walk from the Old Town. Dormitory beds from 35€, and private double rooms from 50€. Strong points: outdoor swimming pool, very clean and modern design, great social atmosphere. An amazing choice for backpackers or budget travelers looking for style and comfort.
• The Malika Hotel: Situated in Patong, about a 15-minute walk from the beach and Jungceylon shopping mall. Modern and clean double rooms from 60€. Strong points: rooftop swimming pool, friendly staff, great value for its location.
• HOMA Phuket Town: A modern apartment hotel in Phuket Town. Bright studios with a kitchenette from 70€. Strong points: incredible rooftop infinity pool with amazing views, a large fitness center, and very comfortable rooms. Excellent value if you want great facilities on a budget.

Where to Stay in Phuket with Family

• Sunwing Kamala Beach: Located directly on the calm Kamala Beach. It offers family rooms and suites from 180€. Strong points: multiple large pools with water slides, kids’ club, direct beach access. You should really consider this place if you’re traveling to Phuket as a family.
• Phuket Graceland Resort and Spa: On Patong Beach, but in a quieter northern section. Family rooms from 200€, breakfast included. Strong points: huge swimming pools, a bowling alley, direct beach access.
• Katathani Phuket Beach Resort: Located directly on the beautiful and calm Kata Noi Beach. This resort offers spacious family rooms and suites from 280€ and features six swimming pools, including a kids’ water park area and a kids’ club. Strong points: direct beach access, lots of activities for children, excellent facilities. It’s one of the best choices for a family beach holiday in Phuket.
