In Positano Historic Center

The historic center of Positano, or Centro Storico, is the vibrant heart of the village, cascading down to the famous Spiaggia Grande beach.

This area is a pedestrian-friendly maze of narrow lanes filled with chic boutiques, artisan shops, and lively cafes.

It’s the best area to experience Positano lifestyle and be close to everything.

You should stay in this district:

  • For a first time stay
  • To be close to the main beach and the ferry port for easy day trips.
  • If you love shopping, with its many fashion and ceramic shops.
  • For a lively vacation, with plenty of restaurants and bars nearby.

This is the perfect area to see:

  • Spiaggia Grande, the main beach and social hub of Positano, with its colorful umbrellas and bustling vibe.
  • Church of Santa Maria Assunta, famous for its majestic dome covered in majolica tiles and the Byzantine icon of the Black Madonna.
  • Via dei Mulini, the main shopping street filled with boutiques selling local fashion and handmade sandals.
  • The Ferry Port, where you can easily catch boats to Capri, Amalfi, and Sorrento.
  • Franco’s Bar, an iconic spot for an evening aperitivo with stunning sunset views.
  • Music on the Rocks, a famous nightclub built into the cliffside, perfect for late-night entertainment.

In the Fornillo District

The Fornillo district, just a short and scenic walk from the historic center, offers a more relaxed and authentic atmosphere.

It’s centered around Fornillo beach, which is smaller and quieter than Spiaggia Grande, making it a favorite among locals.

You should really stay in Fornillo if you want:

  • If you’re looking for a quieter stay, away from the biggest crowds.
  • To enjoy a more local beach experience with more affordable beach clubs.
  • A romantic and peaceful getaway.

This district is perfect for discovering:

  • Fornillo Beach, a charming beach perfect for relaxing.
  • Via Positanesi d’America, the beautiful coastal path that connects Fornillo to Spiaggia Grande.
  • Local restaurants and bars that offer a more authentic taste of the Amalfi Coast.
