The historic center of Sorrento, or Centro Storico, is the vibrant heart of the town.

This area is a charming maze of narrow cobblestone streets, bustling piazzas, and historic buildings, offering an authentic atmosphere.

It’s the best area to discover the town’s main attractions on foot.

You should stay in this district:

• For a first time stay, as you’ll be close to everything.
• To explore the main landmarks easily, without needing transportation.
• If you love lively evenings, with plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops.

This is the perfect area to see:

• Piazza Tasso, the main square and central hub of activity.
• Corso Italia, the primary shopping street, lined with boutiques and cafes.
• Sorrento Cathedral, with its impressive frescoes and marble work.
• Chiostro di San Francesco (Cloister of Saint Francis), a peaceful 14th-century cloister.
• Villa Comunale Park, offering beautiful gardens and panoramic views of the Bay of Naples.
• Deep Valley of the Mills, a fascinating natural gorge with the ruins of an old flour mill.

Where to Stay in Sorrento Historic Center?

In Marina Grande District

Marina Grande, a short walk from the historic center, is Sorrento’s charming and authentic fishing village.

This area offers a more relaxed and traditional atmosphere, with colorful buildings and a small sandy beach.

Staying in Marina Grande allows you to experience a quieter, more local side of Sorrento right by the sea.

You should really stay in Marina Grande:

• If you’re looking for an authentic seaside experience
• If you love fresh seafood, as the area is famous for its waterfront restaurants.
• To enjoy a more romantic setting.

This district is perfect for discovering:

• The fishing harbor, where you can watch fishermen bring in their daily catch.
• Waterfront trattorias, serving some of the freshest seafood in Sorrento.
• Marina Grande Beach, a small, sandy beach perfect for relaxing.
• The Church of Sant’Anna, the small, charming church of the fishing village.
• Stunning views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius, especially at sunset.

Here are my favorite hotels in Marina Grande district

In Priora, for panoramic views

Priora is a hillside neighborhood located just above Sorrento’s town center.

It offers a peaceful retreat away from the bustle of the town, with incredible views over the sea and the city below.

You can stay in Priora:

• If you enjoy walking and nature, as there are many scenic paths in the area.

The Best Hotels to Stay in Priora

If you’re traveling on a budget, here are a few great hotels for a stay in Sorrento without spending too much:

• Grand Hotel Cesare Augusto: Located in the center, near the station. Family rooms available from 220€, breakfast included. Strong points: large garden with a swimming pool, central location, spacious rooms.
• Hilton Sorrento Palace: Overlooking the Bay of Naples. Modern and spacious family rooms from 300€, breakfast included. Strong points: multiple interconnected outdoor pools, kids’ club, amazing views. You should really consider this place if you’re traveling to Sorrento as a family.
