The historic center of Verona, or Città Antica, is the heart of this city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

You should stay in this district if you want:

• For a first time stay, especially if you want to explore Verona’s best places to visit on foot.
• To enjoy the evening atmosphere, with countless restaurants, wine bars, and cafes.
• For a classic, romantic Verona experience.

This is the perfect area to see:

In Veronetta District

Veronetta, located on the east bank of the Adige River, is Verona’s bohemian and university district.

This area has a more alternative and youthful vibe, with a lively atmosphere, especially in the evenings.

Staying in Veronetta allows you to discover a less touristy but very authentic side of the city, with more affordable prices.

You should really stay in Veronetta if:

• You want a genuine local experience, away from the main tourist crowds.
• You’re looking for a vibrant nightlife scene, with many small bars and local restaurants.
• For a budget stay, as it offers more affordable accommodation and dining.

This district is perfect for discovering:

• Giardino Giusti, a stunning Renaissance garden with beautiful statues and panoramic city views.
• The Roman Theatre and Archaeological Museum
• Ponte Pietra, which connects Veronetta to the historic center.
• Castel San Pietro, reachable by funicular, for the most famous viewpoint over Verona.
• Independent art galleries and artisan shops.

Here are my favorite hotels in Veronetta district

In San Zeno District

San Zeno is a historic neighborhood located just west of the city center, known for its authentic and tranquil atmosphere.

It feels like a small village within the city, with a less touristy vibe and a strong local character. It’s also close to the more modern and residential part of the city.

You should stay in San Zeno if:

• You want a quiet and authentic stay, away from the crowds.
• You enjoy exploring local life, including antique markets and traditional trattorias.
• You are traveling by car, as parking is generally easier to find here than in the center.

Best things to see and do around San Zeno:

• The Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore, one of Italy‘s most beautiful Romanesque churches and the district’s centerpiece.
• Piazza San Zeno, the heart of the neighborhood, which hosts a large antique market on the first Sunday of every month.
• The Adige River promenade, perfect for a relaxing walk towards Castelvecchio.
• Local trattorias where you can taste authentic Veronese cuisine at reasonable prices.

The Best Hotels to Stay in San Zeno

• Residence ANTICO SAN ZENO centro storico: Just steps from the Basilica di San Zeno. Offers studios and apartments from 150€. • Hotel Palace Verona: A comfortable 4-star hotel located in the more modern part, a short walk from the district. Modern double rooms from 160€. Strong points: free parking, friendly staff, good breakfast, easy to reach by car.

Where to Stay in Verona on a Budget

If you’re traveling on a budget, here are a few great hotels for a stay in Verona without spending too much:

• The Hostello: Located in Veronetta. Clean and modern dorms from 35€, Private room from 100€, breakfast included. Strong points: social atmosphere, well-equipped kitchen, great location. This is the top choice for backpackers and solo travelers on a budget.
• StraVagante Hostel & Rooms: A bit outside the center but well-connected. Offers both dorms and private rooms starting around 85€. Strong points: modern design, very clean, friendly staff.
• Novo Hotel Rossi: Near the Porta Nuova train station, about a 20-minute walk from the center. Simple, clean double rooms from 95€. Strong points: convenient for day trips, free parking, good value for money.

Where to Stay in Verona with Family

• Best Western CTC Hotel Verona: Located outside the city center, but easily accessible by car or bus. Offers large family rooms from 140€. Strong points: free parking, spacious rooms, excellent breakfast.
• Hotel Leopardi: Located in a quiet area just outside the center, about a 20-minute walk from the Arena. Offers comfortable quadruple rooms from 170€. Strong points: wellness center with a hot tub, free parking, great for families traveling by car.
• Palazzo da Lisca – Verona: Situated in the Veronetta district. It offers spacious apartments with one bedroom plus a sofa bed, or two full bedrooms, starting from 190€. Strong points: kitchen, plenty of space for everyone, excellent central location.
• Hotel Bologna ***S: This excellent hotel located in the city center also offers apartments for families from 270€, with breakfast. Strong points: great restaurant, quiet but central location, friendly service.
