The Altstadt, or Old Town of Zug, is the historic heart of the city, located on the shores of the beautiful Lake Zug.
This district is characterized by its narrow cobblestone alleys and colorful medieval buildings.
It’s the best area if you want to immerse yourself in Swiss charm.
You should stay in this district if you want:
- To be in the most picturesque part of the city
- To explore all historic landmarks on foot.
- To enjoy beautiful sunsets and strolls along the lakeside promenade.
- For a romantic trip.
This is the perfect area to see:
- The Zytturm, Zug’s clock tower with its astronomical clock.
- Zug Castle (Burg Zug), with the museum of cultural history.
- The Lakeside Promenade (Seepromenade)
- Kunsthaus Zug (Art Museum)
- The Old Town’s charming squares, like Landsgemeindeplatz.
Where to Stay in Zug’s Altstadt & Lakeside?

You should really stay in the Modern City Center if you want:

- To be close to shops, international restaurants, and business centers.
- A modern and convenient base for your stay.
This district is perfect for discovering:

In Baar
Just next to Zug lies the town of Baar.
While it has a modern side, Baar also retains a charming village core and offers fantastic access to nature, including the famous Höllgrotten caves.
Staying in Baar is a smart choice for travelers looking for slightly more affordable accommodation without sacrificing convenience, as it’s just a 3-minute train ride from Zug’s main station.
You should stay in Baar if you want:
- To find better value for your money on accommodation.
- Excellent and frequent transport connections to Zug, Zurich, and Lucerne.
This is the perfect area to see:
- The Höllgrotten Caves, an underground world of stalagmites and stalactites.
- The Lorze River, perfect for peaceful walks.

If you’re traveling on a budget, here are a few great options for a stay in Zug without spending a fortune:
