So, where to stay in Milan as a tourist?

Let’s find out!

In the Historic Duomo District

The Duomo district is the historic center of Milan. Every respectable tourist should indeed visit the famous Milan Cathedral, which gave its name to the district.

I recommend this neighborhood for staying in Milan:

  • If you want to sleep in the city center of Milan
  • To discover the main historical monuments, including the famous cathedral
  • If you’re short on time, you’ll be right in the heart of the action
  • As a starting point for exploring Milan on foot

On the downside, the city center of Milan is the area with the most expensive hotels.

The district is the ideal place to discover:

  • The Duomo (Milan Cathedral), as impressive outside as it is inside
  • Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II housing boutiques from major fashion houses
  • La Scala in Milan, the famous opera house.

If you have the budget, the Duomo area is the best neighborhood to stay in Milan.

Here is my selection of the best hotels in central Milan

Hemeras Boutique House Piazza Duomo – from 190€

Ideally located less than 100 meters from the Duomo, in the historical heart of Milan, for this price, you even get an entire apartment instead of a double room!

The apartments are modern, elegant and all include a fully equipped kitchen. Perfect if you don’t fancy going out to find a restaurant in the evening after a long day of sightseeing. Personally, I often opt for this type of accommodation with a kitchen in Italy, a country known for its excellent charcuterie and cheeses. Ideal for an evening picnic with your loved one!

It’s clearly my top pick for its value for money in the Duomo district.
