In Lecce Historic Center (Centro Storico)
The historic center of Lecce, or Centro Storico, is the heart of this beautiful Baroque city.
This area is famous for its stunning architecture, with buildings made from the local “Lecce stone”, giving the city a warm atmosphere.
It’s the best area if you want to be surrounded by history and have all the main sights within walking distance.
You should stay in this district if you want:
- To explore the city’s main attractions easily on foot.
- To enjoy the evening atmosphere, with countless restaurants, wine bars, and cafes.
- For a trip full of culture and history.
This is the perfect area to see:
- Piazza del Duomo, a stunning square, where you can find Lecce Cathedral
- Basilica di Santa Croce, famous for its incredibly detailed and ornate Baroque facade.
- Roman Amphitheater, an ancient ruin located right in the main square, Piazza Sant’Oronzo.
- Castello Carlo V, a massive fortress that now hosts cultural events and exhibitions.
- The charming narrow streets of the old town
- Museo Faggiano, a private museum where you can see archaeological layers of the city’s history.
