In InnereStadt district

For staying at the heart of Vienna and being close to all the major monuments and museums, InnereStadt, Vienna’s first dristrict, is the ideal central neighborhood.

It’s home to historical and cultural landmarks of the Austrian capital, such as the Opera, the City Hall, and about 60 museums.

InnereStadt is mostly a pedestrian area, encircled by a vast circular boulevard called the “Ring”. Its maze of narrow streets, grand squares, and impressive monuments allow you to immerse yourself in Viennese history and culture with every step you take.

For me, it’s the emblematic area to stay in Vienna!

I recommend this neighborhood for staying in Vienna:

  • To experience the heart of the city and be close to all iconic landmarks
  • To fully immerse in Vienna’s history
  • To enjoy the some of the most renowned restaurants and bars.

Staying in the InnereStad district gives you direct access to numerous must-see places such as:

  • Albertina Museum, one of the world’s richest art museums
  • The Hofburg: the must-see former imperial palace and also the largest in the city
  • Saint Stephen’s Cathedral: Vienna’s tallest religious building, dominating the square of the same name. Fun fact: this Gothic cathedral is where Mozart got married!
  • The Vienna State Opera: one of the world’s most prestigious opera houses, built between 1861 and 1869
  • The Graben, one of the oldest and most famous streets in Vienna, home to the most renowned shops and restaurants.
Voyage Tips - Advice

To make the most of your stay in Vienna, don’t forget to book your skip-the-line tickets in advance!

There’s usually a 2-hour wait time to obtain tickets for the main attractions, such as the Hofburg Palace, Schönbrunn Palace, or the Belvedere Palace.

Moreover, these sites are often sold out way in advance!

So don’t wait, if tickets are available, book them now for all the visits you want to do in Vienna!

You can find all the tickets on these 2 reliable and secure websites:

Personally, I highly recommend the Vienna Pass, which is very convenient as it includes access to over 70 tourist sites and attractions in Vienna, as well as unlimited use of the Hop-On Hop-Off buses.
